Sinema will be kickstarting 2011 focusing on the current social issues that is plaguing our world.

We’ve got four documentaries lined up this month, with topics ranging from religion to internet privacy, from sports to global society, which will undoubtedly leave the audience pondering our status quo.

“Why are we here?” “Who is God?” “Will there ever be peace?” The Great Mystery is the product of director Catherine Coronaʼs fascinating, comedic, and heroic 2,700-mile trip through western America seeking answers to these universal questions.

“These were everyday people of different faiths looking at the same issues, not on a grand scale, but in their everyday lives,” says Catherine.

Attitude, directed by first-time directors Leo Liao and Lin Jia-Wei, is a documentary about the struggles faced by the Taiwan Beer Basketball Team on their journey to championship.

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, by director Peter Joseph, is a new feature length documentary work which aims to raise awareness for a global social change by transitioning society away from a money-based economy to a new, sustainable social design called a “Resource-Based Economy”.

Similarly, Erasing David is a filmmakerʼs journey to see how much of our personal information is stored in databases by governments and private companies. Leaving his pregnant wife and young child behind, he puts himself under surveillance and attempts to disappear from UKʼs top private investigators, a decision that changes his life forever.

As part of Sinemaʼs 3rd year anniversary, Sinema is continuing its “four-six-eight” ticket sales throughout January. On weekdays, the 4pm shows are priced at $4, 6pm at $6 and 8pm at $8. Screening is also available on weekends for people to catch up on weekday shows.
