Sinema Old School (2007 – 2012) was the first high definition community theatre in Singapore, set up as a platform to showcase local filmmakers and their works. During its time, it was a haven for the film and arts community.
It saw a generation of young filmmakers come into their own. One mainstay programme was Sinema Showoff! – a monthly curation showcasing local short films, providing a life for films that would otherwise not have found a home.
While Sinema Old School’s physical space is long gone, its spirit lives on through programmes that strive to encourage and enrich the local film scene. Some of the iconic red sofas enjoy a comfortable retirement in the Sinema Media office today.
