Celluloid Nightmares has sold out foreign rights to Gareth Evans’ Indonesian actioner ”The Raid” at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival.
”The Raid” screened on the opening at the Midnight Madness section. Nate Bolotin of Celluloid Nightmares and XYZ Films told Variety that the showing helped lead to sales in Italy, Portugal, Poland, Hong Kong, Latin America, Benelux and Scandinavia.

”We generated a lot of excitement because of how unique the film is,” he added.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions picked up U.S. rights from Celluloid Nightmares during the Cannes Film Festival. Pic was also sold at Cannes to Canada, the U.K., Australia, France, Germany and Japan.

Evans, who lives in Jakarta, wrote and directed the project, which takes place in a hideout for the world’s most dangerous killers with a SWAT team trapped in a tenement. Los Angeles-based production and sales outfit XYZ Films exec produced alongside producers Ario Sagantoro and PT Merantau Films.
