Alcon Entertainment has secured the rights to produce a reboot of 1991 action thriller Point Break from rights holder RGM Media ““ an ASX-listed Pan Asian media and entertainment company with operations in Australia, Singapore and the States.

RGM Media’s Devesh Chetty and investor John McMurrick will serve as Executive Producers while Alcon Entertainment’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson will produce with Michael DeLuca, John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Kurt Wimmer (Salt, Law Abiding Citizen and the expected reboot of Total Recall) who wrote the screenplay.

“Securing this deal with Alcon is really great news for us.” said Devesh Chetty. “The combination of Alcon, Warner Bros and the first-class producers delivers the opportunity for this exhilarating story to be told and seen worldwide.”

The new version will be set in the world of extreme sports, as opposed to solely surfing, with an FBI agent going undercover to catch a gang.

In a statement, Johnson and Kosove said, “Who didn’t love this movie for pure heart-pounding action and thrills? We honor the Kathryn Bigelow original, and Kurt’s take on our version infuses the story and characters with new twists and settings.”
