‘Seediq Bale’ debuts in Venice amid cheering fans1 min read

Venice, Sept. 1 (CNA) Taiwanese movie director Wei Te-sheng appeared on the red carpet at the Venice International Film Festival Thursday in front of cheering fans, before the premiere of his new production, the historical epic “Warriors of Rainbow: Seediq Bale.”

The noted director, dressed in dark suit, was accompanied by the film’s producer John Woo, leading actor Ma Chih-hsiang, and actresses Vivian Hsu, Landy Wen, and Lo Mei-ling in walking down the red carpet as crowds cheered “Go Taiwan!”

To accommodate the festival’s screening format, the four-and-a-half-hour film has been cut to 135 minutes. Wei conceded that a large part of the emotional buildup in the film was sacrificed to allow room for other significant story lines.
