First Pinoy Indie Film Festival brings Filipino films to Vancouver1 min readReading Time: < 1 minute
Whenever I’ve seen a screening for a Filipino film held in Vancouver, I’ve always been amazed at the massive turn-out that such events draw. Also, I had heard that when the Vancouver International Film Festival first started showing Filipino films, the lineups were overwhelming.
The demand is clearly here, but the supply to Vancouver theatres is often limited. I was told by one Filipino director that it’s partly because distribution is often a problem.
A few years ago, Empire Granville 7 had managed to show a few titles. (I had even gone to one, but alas, there weren’t any English subtitles.)
Now there’s finally a local film festival that will showcase Filipino independent films. The first Pinoy Indie Film Festival will be held from August 21 to 28 at the Granville 7 (855 Granville Street), and if attendance at any previous screenings is an indication, it’ll probably be well attended.
