Beijing movie city project eyeing Singapore touch1 min readReading Time: < 1 minute
Tucked away in the Mentougou district in western Beijing, a full-scale movie city, complete with production studios, training schools, a theme park and other entertainment facilities is in the works.
It is being cast as the first Hollywood movie cultural park outside the US, with Singapore developers among potential investors sought for the US$3.3 billion Oriental Hollywood project.
Behind it is Oriental Hollywood International Investment, Beijing, an 80:20 joint venture company involving China New Culture Industry Investment Fund Ltd (Hong Kong) and American movie studio Hollywood Movieworks USA (HMW).
Its chief executive, Ong Hong Hoon – a former director of Hong Kong-listed GP NanoTechnology – was in Singapore recently to meet two to three developers here. ‘We are also open to investors from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Taiwan,’ he said.
