Seventy years have passed by after Bollywood first produced a movie reflecting journalism of that time but some people believe that the film industry has not grown out of age in really picturising media.
At a discussion on ”Changing Portrayal of Media in Cinema” here during the presentation of Chameli Devi Jain award constituted by Media Foundation to ”Open” correspondent Shahina K K, the panelists chose to differ in their views on media depiction in movies.
While historian Mukul Kesavan and senior journalist Om Thanvi agreed that Hollywood had a more realistic portrayal of media, filmmaker Anusha Rizvi chose to defend the Indian style saying “we exaggerate a little”.
Rizvi, the Director of the hit movie ”Peepli Live” which was a satirical take on Indian TV journalism, defended the portrayal of media in Indian cinemas saying there was a difference in taste.
