Filipino cinematographer all set for Academy Awards1 min read

Matthew Libatique said as we sat for a brief one-on-one chat in one of the rooms of the Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (Sipa) in Los Angeles’ Historic Filipinotown.

“This” is the extra attention the low-key [well, despite the trademark spiky hair] director of photography (DP) has been getting since he earned his first Academy Award nomination for his excellent work on Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.”

Now he has to make decisions like who to wear to the Oscars on Sunday (Monday morning in the Philippines). Matthew said that he will decide on Sunday morning whether to wear a tux by Filipino designer Oliver Tolentino or Band of Outsiders. His date, wife Magela Crosignani, who is also a cinematographer, will wear a gown from Neiman Marcus.

Matthew, Matty to friends and colleagues, also knows he has to prepare his acceptance speech for just in case. He revealed that he is drafting one in his mind.
