IT SOUNDS like an arts scheme that is too good to be true. Say you want to write a novel or a play, or you want to put on an art exhibition.

You can get as much as $50,000 just to work on your project Sounds like a sweet deal, right?

That is what the Arts Creation Fund is, in a nutshell. It was set up in 2008 to encourage the creation of more original local works with an Asian identity. These include plays, novels, visual artworks and music compositions.

Administered by the National Arts Council, the fund has $3.5 million to disburse over five years. It is unique in that it funds the process of creating artworks, rather than the finished product.
