Kiyoto Takaya Named IMAX GM in Japan1 min read

IMAX has created a new role of general manager, Japan, to be filled by Kiyoto Takaya, as it continues to expand its operations in Japan.

Takaya, who spent 24 years at Toho and three years at Paramount Pictures Japan, will answer to Don Savant, the company’s managing director, Asia-Pacific.

“Following the recent success of our newly-formed joint venture partnerships with leading Japanese exhibitors, we believe there is more opportunity for the growth of our business in Japan, and creating this new position is a key step in capitalizing on that opportunity, said IMAX’s chief executive officer Richard L. Gelfond.

IMAX announced plans for five more of its 3D-capable mega-screens in Japan earlier this year in a joint venture with Tokyu Corp.
