The Independent Filmmaker Project has announced the ten documentary projects it has lined up for its year-long Independent Filmmaker Labs fellowship. The Labs focus on independent filmmakers who are in the post-proudction stage of their first film, mentoring the directors in the completion, marketing and distribution of their films. The 20 projects taken on by the Labs, 10 docs and 10 narratives, are all budgeted under $1 million. The recipients of the Narrative Lab fellowship will be announced in June.

Below are the documentary projects selected for this year’s Lab with synopses provided by IFP:

“Herman’s House”

This film captures the remarkable creative journey and friendship of Herman Wallace, one of the Angola 3, and artist Jackie Sumell while examining the injustice of prolonged solitary confinement. Fellows: Angad Bhalla (Director, Producer); Lisa Valencia-Svensson (Producer); Loring McAlpin (Executive Producer)
