WHEN Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina (above) announced her new project, the musical, The Secret Life of Nora, many hoped she would also be turn it into a film.

Unfortunately, no such announcement was made by the woman who gave Malaysian cinema one of its best heroines — Puteri Gunung Ledang.

Gusti Putri Retno Dummilah, played by Tiara on screen and its musical theatre version, is independent, strong, bold and can hold her own against leading men.

In short, she is a rare female character in Malaysian cinema, which tends to focus more on strong leading men.
