Shooting has started on a 12-episode documentary on the Huangpu Military Academy, the pre-eminent army institution that has turned out outstanding commanders in the 20th century and played a stellar role in Chinese history.

Produced by China Central Television and Central Newsreels and Documentary Film Studio, aims to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911.

Director Liang Bibo, whose production team has been collating documents and writing drafts of the project since June, said the documentary is expected to be completed by October 2011. It will focus on the theme of unification.
