The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) has confirmed that the inaugural ScreenSingapore event will be held between 5 to12 June 2011, with its trade exhibition for industry guests to be held mid-festival from 7 to 9 June.

The eight-day event will be composed of a film and entertainment trade market and regional premieres of upcoming high-profile movies alongside conferences, workshops, financing seminars and producer forums.

The event was first announced at a press conference during the Cannes Film Festival, and it will possibly coincide with the opening of the Shanghai Film Festival, whose dates have yet to be announced.

Head of MDA, Dr. Christopher Chia, stated, “With support from the major studios and international industry players, ScreenSingapore is set to become one of the most exciting platforms for greater collaboration between East and West.”

CEO of Dune Entertainment Greg Coote, who chairs the ScreenSingapore board, added, “With the support of the Hollywood studios and the fusion of stunning pan-Asian filmmakers, this event will dominate the industry landscape in the years to come.”

This new event has no relation to the well-regarded Screen Singapore film festival held on 1 to 16 August 2005, screening 31 local feature films produced since 1955 with the backing of the Singapore Film Commission.
