Produced with the support of Singapore Tourism Board’s SG Stories Content Fund Season 2, online video channel Not Safe For TV (NSFTV) has launched Singapore’s first chick flick series Girl Back Home.

Starring Iris Li in the lead, the series follows a returning Rachel Chua from Girls Girls Girls, now a young adult coming home from her studies abroad for an internship at her favourite bookstore-cafe.

The first episode of Girl Back Home is now available on all of NSFTV’s distribution platforms, including its YouTube channel, Instagram page, Facebook page. The series will run from 1 December 2021 to 19 January 2021, with a new episode released every Wednesday, at 4PM.

As part of the series roll-out, NSFTV will be working to promote various small businesses and locations by means of collaborative promotions and online features.

The video channel shares that the lighthearted series is a homage to the chick flick genre, as well as a tongue-in-cheek response to controversial depictions of the aspirational but unaware young woman in popular films such as Emily in Paris and Legally Blond.

Girl Back Home will follow in the footsteps of its predecessors and feature an all-woman principal crew along with most of the main cast from Girls Girls Girls.

“In the initial stages, we imagined the world of Rachel to be reminiscent of early 2000s chick flicks. Along the way, as we sought inspiration from works like Netflix’s Sex Education, we veered away from the obvious tropes (of the chick flick) and sought to see the world through a young woman that makes mistakes, learns from falling but still relentlessly strives to find her place,” said director Alexis Terese Tan of the treatment of the series.

Iris Li shares: “This series is a representation of young women who aren’t afraid to use their power to make a home for themselves and the people around them. I hope Rachel’s transformation will be empowering and comforting for younger girls experiencing their coming of age and evoke them to be bold in personal evolution.”

Girl Back Home was produced with the support of Singapore Tourism Board’s SG Stories Content Fund Season 2, which supports local and international content creators to develop and share digital video content that inspires reimagination of Singapore. In line with Season 2’s theme ‘Singapore: The Unique and The Unknown’, Girl Back Home showcases hidden gems, lesser-known facets, and unique passions derived from Singapore-only experiences.
