Earlier this year, Sinema Media, a consultancy and project management company focused on film and media initiatives, kickstarted The Inciting Incident, its inaugural screenplay challenge, in partnership with casting agency Hello Group, acting school Haque Centre of Acting & Creativity, publishing house Epigram Books, and online interactive and fundraising platform Premise, with Tempest being the prize partner of this quarter. The challenge aims to encourage screenwriters to shake off their hesitation, flesh out their stories and put them into the world!

Contestants are to submit an original screenplay in English for a 3 – 5 minute short film based on the quarterly genre. Submissions will be judged by a panel of industry professionals, narrowing the selections down to 10 finalists and ultimately 3 winners. The quarter’s genre is COMEDY.

Prizes
First place: $200 cash prize + A Kirin – Monarch – PBT – Cherry MX Red Keyboard by Tempest
Second place: $150 cash prize
Third place: $50 cash prize
The works of the ten finalists will be published in a collection by Epigram Books at the end of the competition. More prizes to be announced soon so stay tuned!

The submission period for the first quarter of the competition ends on Thursday, 6 February 2020, 23:59 (GMT+8), with a SGD 5 fee per entry.

Winning entries will be determined based on the work’s creativity, form and craft, and producibility. Winners stand to receive cash and product prizes and their works published in a print collection at the end of the competition. Winning screenplays may also have the opportunity to be made into short films.
