Every city bears testament to the passion, dedication and precision of skilled craftsmen with its architectural masterpieces and intricacies. Their stories of creating modern icons and lasting legacies with unwavering ethos take centre stage at Archifest 2019 from 27 September to 9 October 2019.

Organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), the festival celebrates the theme of Craft to honour those who have dedicated a lifetime in perfecting their craft in the making of architecture and the built environment where communities can live, work, and play.

This year’s edition is curated by renowned Singapore architecture firm Formwerkz Architects who has designed a bespoke line-up of a myriad of immersive programmes that experiences the role of craft in the development of modern and liveable cities. They cut a wide swath of programmes that includes architectural exhibitions, conferences and forums, film screenings, and hands-on artisanal craft workshops.

There will be three films being screened at Archifest 2019, namely:

  • BAUHAUS SPIRIT: 100 YEARS OF BAUHAUS
100 years ago, a radical artistic utopia was born – a synthesis of free imagination and strict structure, enrichment and simplification, light and clarity; a generous creative fount that fuelled everyone from Apple designers to architecture’s avant-garde – The Bauhaus Spirit.
  • MCQUEEN
A personal look at the extraordinary artistry of British craft architect and fashion designer Alexander McQueen. Through exclusive interviews with his closest friends and family, recovered archives, exquisite visuals and music, McQueen is an authentic celebration and thrilling portrait of an inspired yet tortured fashion visionary.
  • TADAO ANDO
An exclusive behind-the-scenes look into the work and processes of renowned architect and Japanese ‘Master of Minimalism’ Tadao Ando. The only architect to have won the discipline’s four most prestigious prizes: the Pritzker, Carlsberg, Praemium Imperiale, and Kyoto Prize. Ando shares his sources of inspiration and motivation.
