The Singapore Malay Film Society (SMFS) is proud to present their first Gala Premiere and Fund-Raising Event for the film screening of “Redha”. After an announcement was made about the cancellation of the film release in Singapore, SMFS received numerous requests on their Facebook Page to bring the film into Singapore in April 2016.

Upon receiving these requests, the founder of SMFS, Isnor DzulkarnainJaafar, made a trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to visit the Producer and Director and requested to screen the film in Singapore. The meet with Tunku Mona, the director, Haris Sulong, the producer and Zubir Badar Shahir, the distribution director from Empire Films in
KL was successful and an agreement was clinched. From there, SMFS approached Autism Association (Singapore) to be the beneficiary of the event, and have since worked closely with them to screen the film and raise funds for the cause ““ Autism Awareness.

There are two ways in which they are raising the funds:

Redha 2

The Film
Redha is a Malaysian feature film directed by Tunku Mona Riza. It was released in Malaysia and Brunei during April’s Autism Awareness Month. It was scheduled to be screened in Singapore during the same period, but was unfortunately cancelled due to technical faults with the cinema. The film will make its first debut in Singapore on Tuesday, 26th July 2016.

Synopsis
Upon the discovery that their only son Danial is autistic, Alina and Razlan’s world crumbles as the family struggles to confront the harsh realities of raising a child disabled by a condition they hardly know about. Razlan’s inability to accept the truth causes friction within the family, but Alina’s perseverance and maternal instinct help wade through the difficult times in raising Danial. With her sister and close friend by her side, they may have found a way to improve Danial’s quality of life until a tragic accident causes the family to rethink its strategy.

Director’s Statement
Several years in the making, the inspiration for Redha came when the director met an old friend with an autistic child. Back when autism awareness was little, Tunku Mona took it upon herself to research about autism and how it inflicts families in Malaysia particularly, culminating in a story that yearns to be told. From a simple premise, the story evolved into one that was multilayered, inspiring honest, truthful and above all, universal. Redha, the film, is not just about autism ““ it is about family, it is about the people we might know. It is about us.
