Atomos rack mounts its Shogun 4K1 min read

Atomos keeps finding new niches for its products and the latest sees it port its Shogun expertise into what it bills as the world’s first all-in-one 4K/HD, 2ch, dual 7in 3RU rack recorder, monitor and playback deck.

Admittedly, that’s a fairly niche category all of its own, but Shogun Studio certainly crams a lot into a 3RU rack product.

The company looks to be chasing four core markets with this: on-set and DIT cards (aided by recording direct to 10-bit 422 ProRes, DNxHR or RAW); the lower end of the live event market; mobile production where size currently counts very much; and ProAV integrators looking for an affordable 4K & HD playout engine for signage and videowalls.

Atomos is even pointing to the advantages of using 4K cameras for security systems too and being able to zoom in on miscreants, which is a new one on us but perfectly reasonable now we think of it.
