HONG KONG ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL FULL LINE-UP ANNOUNCED!1 min readReading Time: < 1 minute
One of the most exciting film festivals in the fair city of Hong Kong, the HKAFF always promises a bold and adventurous line-up of features from across the region and their 2011 slate proves to be no exception.
The festival kicks off on 18 October with Johnnie To’s hotly anticipated LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE and runs until 8 November, wrapping things up in fine style with Wong Ching Po’s LET’S GO. In between, the programming team has packed the schedule to the rafters with some of the hottest titles to come out of Asia this year.
Most exciting for me out of all the films screening is Indonesian balls-to-the-wall actioner, THE RAID, fresh off winning the Cadillac People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award at Toronto. Reuniting Welsh director with rising martial arts star Iko Uwais after their impressive debut, MERANTAU, for an all-out onslaught of flying fists and relentless carnage.
Other highlights include Tom Lin’s STARRY STARRY NIGHT, Sono Sion’s HIMIZU, Ishii Katsuhito’s SMUGGLER, Na Hong Jin’s THE YELLOW SEA and also Ji Ha Jean’s impressive debut BLOODY FIGHT IN IRON-ROCK VALLEY, which picked up the Best Asian Film at PIFAN earlier this year.
