If you want to control your Canon or Nikon DSLR remotely, whether for stills, time-lapse, or video, this tiny new gadget will help you out big time.

Developed by Alpine Labs, Pulse is a camera trigger that gives users complete wireless control over their cameras right from their smartphone simply by plugging it into their DSLRs USB port. This thing is certainly hitting a nerve with photographers and filmmakers, as it has already surpassed its goal on Kickstarter by almost $500K (with over 6000 backers).

Pulse has a lot of great features for all types of filmmakers, regardless of their level of expertise. Its form factor is not only sleek, but it’s small enough to transport easily, as well as mount on a hotshoe without making your DSLR unwieldy. It’s compatible with over 60 Canon and Nikon DSLRs (and the Panasonic GH4, too), allows you to control multiple Pulse-equipped cameras at once using one smartphone, and because it plugs into your camera’s USB port (as opposed to the trigger port), it allows you to control video.

Features:

  • 24+ hours of battery life
  • USB camera control/charging
  • 100 foot range
  • Weight: 1.5 oz
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Compatible with 60+ cameras (Canon, Nikon, and Panasonic GH4)
  • iOS and Android compatibility
  • Control up to three Pulse-equipped cameras at once from one smartphone
  • Exposure Ramping feature for better day-to-night time-lapse control
