An out-there comedy on sexual frustration, Singapore style, Rubbers å¥— starts like a collegiate gross-out movie but develops a typically Southeast Asian sweetness in its second half that goes a long way to excusing some of the movie’s more juvenile moments. With a cast of regulars that includes veteran Marcus CHIN 陳建彬 and Catherine SNG å­«æ–¼æƒ , as well as fine Malaysian Chinese actress YEO Yann Yann æ¥Šé›é› (Being Human åšäºº (2010)Ilo Ilo çˆ¸åª½ä¸åœ¨å®¶ (2013)), writer-director HAN Yew Kwang éŸ“耀光‘s fifth feature is a vast improvement on his gender-bending comedy When Hainan Meets Teochew ç•¶æµ·å—遇上潮州 (2010) but lacks the more sustained craft of his earlier (and best known feature) 18 Grams of Love æ„›æƒ…18克 (2007).
