Exclusive Interview: Chin Han (Contagion, Restless)
Born in Singapore, the 41year old actor of stage, screen and television began his career in classical theater, then moved on to a role in the first English speaking soap opera in Asia.
Almost twenty years later he entered the realm of American cinema, and it wasn’t a subtle entry. His first two major films just happened to be blockbuster hits with all-star ensemble casts. He first appeared as Lau, a Chinese mafia accountant in The Dark Knight, then as a Tibetan worker in the epic sci-fi disaster film 2012.
Voted as one of The Top 25 actors in Asia, Chin has now landed a role in Steven Soderbergh’s new action thriller Contagion, as well as in Gus Van Sant’s new drama Restless.
Both films open this month.
We recently had the chance to speak with Chin about his journey and the surreal experience of working with his cinematic heroes. Just days before heading off to the premier of Contagion at the Venice Film Festival, he sat down with us to talk about his newest roles, the things he learned from Shakespeare, and the quest for his next big adventure.
