Confusion continues as Indonesia nears distribution restart
Confusion reigns as Hollywood films are tipped to finally return to Indonesian cinemas after a hiatus of five months.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 may appear on Indonesian screens this weekend, but then again it may not.
Djonny Sjafruddin, head of the Indonesian Union of Cinema Owners (GPBSI), held a press conference in Jakarta on Saturday to announce that the government and the Motion Picture Association (MPA), the umbrella group representing six Hollywood studios, had agreed to allow a new distributor Omega Film to import and distribute Hollywood films.
“All things such as censorship and subtitles [on Potter] have already been finished,” Sjafruddin said at the conference. “We need some 90 copies and they are now under process.” He indicated that the film would be released before Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting that begins on Monday (1 Aug).
Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism has also said that Potter is to be released imminently.
