Major sees blockbuster performance
Major Cineplex Group Plc expects a revenue leap this year thanks to a good variety of blockbuster films and the improving local economy. The cinema chain projects consolidated revenue growth of 10-15%, while ticket sales and related revenue alone will increase by 20-25%.
“The customer mood is good, and purchasing power is returning. Most of the films that have already shown have generated profits, and the rest of this year will see even more blockbusters. We strongly believe 2011 will be another good year for Major,” said chairman Vicha Poolvaraluck.
He expressed confidence that revenue in the second quarter would rise quarter-on-quarter.
Only a month and a half into this quarter, popular Thai and foreign films have already generated more than 100 million baht in ticket sales each.
Big-budget films to come include Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (starting today), Kung Fu Panda 2, X-Men: First Class, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, King Naresuan: Part Three, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn _ Part 1 and Mission: Impossible _ Ghost Protocol.
