Writer-actor fondly remembered by his industry friends1 min read

It was a sudden farewell for family members of Aimi Jarr, 72, veteran journalist and actor. Aimi Jarr or his real name Omar@Abd Majid Puteh died yesterday of a heart attack at his home in Taman Melawati.

Aimi’s son Romy Jarr Omar said his father was overall in good health. However, he did seem a little tired than his usual active self lately.

“My father was very active. He still went to work with Datuk Yusuf Haslam. But this morning he came down with a fever. At first, we thought he just had a normal high temperature but very soon, his condition worsened,” Romy said after burial service yesterday at the Kelang Gate Muslim Cemetery.

Aimi who was named Best Screenplay writer at the second Malaysian Film Festival in 1981 has been writing and acting since 1962. He is survived by his wife Noriah Ishak, two daughters, Norimy and Norlizda and son Romy.

Word had it that Aimi was in the midst of completing his very own biography titled, “Memori Aimi Jarr”, which recorded tales of his journey in the entertainment scene for half a century.
