THE beautifully versatile Michelle Chong is just about everywhere on TV.

She’s an actor, a host and a comedienne – and she can do all three of those things in English, Chinese and Singlish in all its vernaculars and dialects.

This week, the return of popular news spoof, The Noose, marks a fourth season of Michelle morphing into two terribly vapid but well-loved regular characters: Ditzy newscaster Adrianna Wow and the eternally bubbly fan of all things expatriate, Barbarella.

One of the reasons Michelle is stressed is that The Noose is giving her as much grief as satisfaction – because of a difference of opinion of what is appropriate for television.

“It’s just frustrating and depressing,” she continued. “I sometimes feel that this industry is addictive, overwhelming, and it swallows you whole. In the last two or three years, I really contemplated getting out. I wanted to do something I could truly call my own.”
