The 34th Japan Academy Awards presented its top prizes to Nakashima Tetsuya’s psycho-thriller Confessions last night. The thirteen main awards for achievements by local films were shared by just three films.

Confessions – about a teacher’s meticulous revenge on the students who killed her young daughter – won best picture, director and screenplay awards for Nakashima. In addition Koike Yoshiyuki, Nakashima’s regular collaborator, was recognised for his editing.
