Directors have been set for two US remakes of Japanese films.

Shane Black will direct the English-language version of Death Note, which was originally a Manga and became a TV series and three films in 2006-2008.

Gareth Edwards, who recently won a shower of awards for his first film Monsters, will direct Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.’ Godzilla’.

The new Death Note is to be produced by Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Brian Witten for Warner Bros, which was an investor and Japan distributor of the three film series.

As a screenwriter Black was involved with Lethal Weapon, Last Action Hero and The Long Kiss Goodnight. He previously directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The new film saw Charley and Vlas Parlapanides write a first draft, while Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry will do a rewrite.
