Theatrical box office in Hong Kong surged ahead by 31% last year, powered by a record-breaking animated picture and premium-priced 3-D films.

Gross revenue climbed from HK$1.18 billion in 2009 to HK$1.54 billion in 2010 according to data released by the Motion Picture Industry Association.
