Looking East for inspiration
Venice Film Festival director Marco Müller has been writing articles on Chinese films and introducing them to the West since the 1980s, as well as helping finance and coproduce independent Chinese films since the 1990s.
He has witnessed the changes and development of Chinese film industry over the years.
His familiarity with Chinese films is evident in the way he keeps abreast of the latest releases.
Apart from the fifth and sixth generation directors of China, Müller keeps a keen eye on new trends. “The new generation of Chinese directors, like some courageous animation directors, focus not only on art and commerce, but also cinematic and visual arts. I am very impressed by them,” he said.
