Can documentaries change the world?

David Novack, a documentary director from the United States, says he doesn’t know but believes that they are able to help some people.

“Burning the Future: Coal in America” focuses on the conflict between the residents of the state of West Virginia and the coal industry. Sharing his thoughts with a Chinese audience at the Beijing Film Academy, he said his film has managed to help some people who were still struggling to protect their mountains, save their families and preserve their way of life.

Nineteen documentaries from different countries will be shown in Beijing, including both international prizewinning movies produced during the last three years and films from this year.
