At 8:15am on Monday 6 August 1945, time stopped for the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

The first atomic bomb in history spared no one who was in Hiroshima at the time, for the dead and those who had to live with the consequences.

This year is the 65th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. The Japanese Foundation announced that this year’s Japanese Film Festival, which comes to Egypt annually, would be called simply “Hiroshima”.

The aim of keeping the memory alive as a reminder to the world of the atrocious consequences of nuclear weapons, and as a call to abolish nuclear weapons once and for all.
