Box-office receipts in China have reached 8 billion yuan (US$1.2 billion) so far this year, up sharply from 6.3 billion yuan in 2009.

But that’s not because more people are going to the movies.

In September, the company announced plans to open 15 giant-screen cinemas in the country over the next five years with South Korean partner CJ CVG Co.
