Journo on the move

For investigative journalist Patricia Elliott, travel is hardly ever an excuse to relax.

Elliott first came to Thailand in 1989 after winning an IDRC Young Canadian Researchers Award, which provides sponsorship to budding journalists interested in international issues.

She worked as a news reporter for the Bangkok Post, covering refugee situations, Cambodia and the heroin trade.

“I’m working on a documentary film about journalism in Burma. You’d be surprised how much real journalism goes on, from inside jail cells to outside the country. People from Burma have a good understanding of the value of a free press,” she said in an interview with Bangkok Post.
