Tourists in Singapore can learn more about the culture of neighbouring Malaysia at the Pesta Raya 2011 festival this month.

Taking place between September 30th and October 2nd, the Malay arts celebration is presented by the Esplanade performing arts centre and takes place annually following the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities.

It will encompass several days of dance, theatre and music performances from international, regional and local acts, with a range of ticketed and free events on offer.

Attendees can enjoy entertainment as diverse as a pop concert from sibling duo Ziana and Anuar Zain, comedy from Adi Rahman and a performance of Indonesian children’s musical Laskar Pelangi, as well as screenings of classic Malay films.

The weekend will feature a wide variety of free activities for tourists to enjoy, including a dance showcase and workshops centred on batik fabrics and fan-making.

People in the area will find there is a large variety of entertainment options available at Esplanade in addition to Pesta Raya, as the centre is also home to dining, shopping and many other theatrical and musical performances.
