A prequel to the Planet of the Apes series from the 1960s and ’70s, this story tells of how the primates dramatically take over the world from humans when an experiment with genetic engineering turns an unexpected corner and backfires, getting into the wrong hands as the apes’ intelligence recovers.
James Franco stars with Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), John Lithgow (Dreamgirls), Brian Cox (Red), Tom Felton (Harry Potter) and Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings), who as Caesar the ape has mastered the art of portraying a motion-captured creature.
A highlight of this film is the impressive animals. The Oscar-winning digital effects team, Peter Jackson’s WETA Digital, which brought the worlds of Avatar and Lord of the Rings to life, continues its groundbreaking work with the motion-capture/CGI apes.
