Chinese animation films fill in box office peak time1 min read

With winter vacation meaning there’s a nation of children who need entertaining, three Chinese animation films are filling in this traditionally peak-time for box-office family fun.

Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf (January 21), Old Master Q and Little Ocean Tiger (January 27) and Little Big Panda (February 3) are all scheduled for cinemas over the next four weeks.

While adding their own touch of festivity to the so-called Chunjiedang (Spring Festival time slot), each film has its own selling point to attract cinemagoers.

“It is encouraging to see three animation films attracting attention in the Spring Festival cinema. But Old Master Q and Little Ocean Tiger has a Japanese team, Little Big Panda is almost a Western production. Only the Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf is a local production. There is still a long road ahead for Chinese animation,” film critic Hu Liang told the Global Times.
