Thailand’s worst flooding in decades has affected every industry and the entertainment business is no exception. That old adage, the show must go on, doesn’t apply in this case, especially now that Bangkok has also been hit by the floods and residents of several districts have been told to evacuate.

With many venues facing the uncertainty of flooding, almost all events scheduled until early December have either been cancelled or postponed.

The main concert venue Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani saw all its shows in late October as well as those in early November axed. The last foreign concert held there was “Yanni Live in Bangkok”, with the multi-instrumentalist even pitching in to help with flood relief.

Shows scheduled for late November and those at venues outside flood-affected areas are still pending. Making matters worse is the fact that ticket holders may get only short notice of cancellation as local organisers wait for foreign promoters to call off the shows.

The Day Before: Donatella Versace
Documentary | Prigent, Loic | 2010 | 52 minutes | Italian with English subtitles | Exempted from classification

Italian opulence and fantasy, driven by the mysterious and surprisingly fragile Donatella. Star quality and perfect handcraft are the keys of the Versace success. But in this time of economic crisis, Donatella has a lot to do. An intense glimpse into the life of one of the great fashion divas.

The Day Before: Jean Paul Gaultier
Documentary | Prigent, Loic | 2010 | 52 minutes | French with English subtitles | Exempted from classification

In this ten-part documentary series, Prigent chronicles the final 36 hours prior to crucial seasonal runway shows featuring creations by some of the fashion world’s leading designers.

Jean Paul Gaultier, renowned for his unforgettable costumes for Madonna and Kylie Minogue, mixes wit and magic in a Parisian haute couture show. The night will be long but when the magic happens it’s almost a miracle.

Signé Chanel
Documentary | Prigent, Loic | 2005 | 120 minutes | French with English subtitles | Exempted from classification

The progress of an haute couture collection from Karl Lagerfeld’s initial sketches through to the selling of the clothes to wealthy customers.

This is a loving depiction of the fascinating enclosed world of the couture house, with its esoteric age-old skills, human comedy and tense, secretive atmosphere.

Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton
Documentary | Prigent, Loic | 2007 | 82 minutes | English | Exempted from classification

There is a striking contrast between the extremely formal structure of giant Vuitton and Jacobs’s extremely laidback attitude. Hired in 1998, confident and media-wary, he has invented Vuitton’s ready-to-wear line, and turned over the world of luxury with limited series of handbags designed by contemporary artists. Today, Louis Vuitton has become LVMH’s goose with the golden eggs, responsible for over 60% of the group’s income.

Paul Smith: Gentleman Designer
Documentary | Carrel, Stephane | 2011 | 55 minutes | English | Exempted from classification

Paul Smith has 400 shops and outlets in 35 countries, 12 clothing lines, 400 million euros in yearly revenues, sales topping Chanel’s, partnerships with Evian, Apple, and Austin, and prestigious bicycle and racecar brands.

Picture Me: A Model’s Diary
Documentary | Schell, Ole & Ziff, Sara | 2010 | 80 minutes | English | NC16

Filmmaker Ole Schell follows his girlfriend, model Sara Ziff, for several years documenting her rise from a fresh face to one that adorns billboards and magazines around the world. In the process, Ole and Sara go behind the scenes and chronicle the glitzy world of high fashion modeling, from photo shoots with celebrated photographers to runway shows in New York, Milan, and Paris.

This intimate account features in-depth interviews with noted photographers and designers, but also relies on footage shot by the models themselves, giving voice to those who are often seen, but rarely heard.

The Secret World of Haute Couture
Documentary | Kingmoth, Mary | 2006 | 60 minutes | English | Exempted from classification

The world of haute couture is like a private club. Members are very rich, extremely discreet and their clothes are the most expensive in the entire world. In a journey which takes her from Paris to New York and Los Angeles, filmmaker Margy Kinmonth meets millionaire customers and world famous designers as she explores this anachronistic but little explained pocket of the fashion industry.

What are the unwritten rules of membership? And why is it all so hush hush?

Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé : L’amour Fou
Documentary | Thorreton, Philippe | 2010 | 109 minutes | French with English Subtitles | M18

Upon Yves Saint Laurent death, his life companion Pierre Bergé decides to sell their private art collection. This sale is considered ‘the auction of the century’. Each object and art piece tells a story about their personal lives. This documentary, filmed with rare material archives and exclusive images of their homes, tells their story : A story of love, arts and ethics.

Hermès presents “Hearts and Crafts”
Documentary | Kingmoth, Mary | 2006 | 60 minutes | English | Exempted from classification

Celebrating this year’s annual theme of “Contemporary artisan since 1837”, Hermès is delighted to present “Hearts and Crafts”, a film directed in 2011 by Frédéric Laffont and Isabelle Dupuy-Chavanat. This documentary pays homage to the artisans of the numerous Hermès métiers.

FilAm Creative, an organization advancing Filipino-Americans in entertainment and media, will be an industry sponsor for Bigfoot Entertainment’s Singafest Asian Film Festival Sept. 29-Oct. 2. Singafest is a new international film festival celebrating Asian cinema premiering at the historic Bigfoot Crest Theater in Westwood Village, Los Angeles.

“We’ve had a very successful 2011 establishing FilAm Creative with events that exceeded our expectations,” said FilAm Creative co-chairman, Ed Mallillin.

“Bigfoot has been a great partner this year. They’ve shown an incredible amount of support to FilAm Creative and we’re thankful for an event like this to showcase what Fil-Am filmmakers are capable of. Fil-Ams need to support our own artists more and that starts here at Singafest.”

Three FilAm Creative members will have their films screened during the New Faces/New Frontiers: The Singafest Short Film Program on Sat. October 1st at 11am at the Bigfoot Crest Theater. They are the documentary Lyrical Empire: Hip-hop in Metro Manila by Mark Villegas, Asian-American identity film Spunk by Patrick Epino and the intense horror/thriller D-volution by Walter Boholst. The program is co-sponsored by FilAm Creative and CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics In Entertainment.)

The Sineng Pambansa opened Wednesday a three-day film festival in Tawi-Tawi as part of its commitment to bring local films to Filipinos.

The Sineng Pambansa is a program of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

“The decision to hold a Filipino film festival in Tawi-Tawi underscores the commitment of the FDCP to bring Filipino films to Filipinos, wherever they may be in the scattered islands of the archipelago, or in their overseas communities,” FDCP said in a statement.

The event is also the first ever cultural activity of its kind to be staged in the province, which in the past was considered a remote outpost.

It said the Memorandum of Agreement for the festival was signed on July 19 by Tawi-Tawi Governor Sadikul Sahali and FDCP Chairman Briccio Santos and Executive Director Jose Miguel de la Rosa at the FDCP office in Makati City.

The film festival in Bongao town, which ends on Friday, is the third location site of Sineng Pambansa in Mindanao. The first was in Zamboanga City on February and the third location would e in Marawi City in Lanao del Sur province on June 28 next year.
