The film was originally made to compete in the 2010 Creative Video Awards organised by SMA, to fit the competition theme of “Best Memory”.

Initially, a very different direction was explored for the project, until inspiration struck from a drink driving advertisement. The film aims to explore how we perceive memories and consciousness, and the entire production period lasted roughly 3 weeks from concept to finish.

It marks writer/director Malcolm Ong’s first foray into serious short films, having only made simple school videos in the past. Comprising a cast and crew of friends, the film was a collaborative effort as everyone contributed greatly to make it possible.

The intent, which we hope we accomplished, was to deliver a full story and a cinematic experience despite having a time frame of only 3 minutes, and more importantly, to establish an emotional connection with the audience.

FLUX is a dance film that basically has this housewife-alien-dancer-person that performs a set of movements for the camera.

The film is done in collaboration with local Choreographer Elysa Wendi. I wouldn’t call it an experimental film although a lot of people seem to see it that way.

Not that I have an issue with it, but I just always saw it more as a straight forward dance film with a sort of Music Video aesthetic.

Although the film itself is not experimental, but the process definitely was. We made it such that prior to shoot day, there was no dance, no music and no shot list. Cause of that, there was a lot of adrenaline and we had immense amount of fun.

“Scot Free” is a final year thesis film made by a group of students from Ngee Ann Poly School of Film Sound and Video in year 2008.It was completed in early 2009.

It was the first student short film to undergo 2k processing courtesy of blackmagic design. The shoot took like 12 days, was shot on 16mm film. The film has participated in the 2010 Singapore Short Film Festival (Panaroma Short Selection), 2nd Vancouver Singapore Film Festival and was recently nominated for 3 awards at the 2nd Singapore Short Film Awards.

The shoot was shot all over Singapore mostly on a 5 men crew and a truck full of equipment and it was mad tiring.

The idea of the film was conceptualized and set in stone from an accumulation of different ideas over 7 weeks which basically started when we were thinking, “what if we made a film about 2 foreign bagpackers?” that was where things get as crazy as the film gets.

SOME people judge books by their covers. Organisers of the poster show Mise En SIN are hoping viewers will do the same with homegrown movies.

Opening on Feb 28 as part of the 2nd Singapore Short Film Awards event, the exhibition will feature 100 posters of Singapore short and feature films over at The Substation.

The comprehensive showcase will include poster art of movies by some 60 film-makers done from 2005 to the present. It runs the gamut from established names like Royston Tan, Glen Goei, Eric Khoo and Jack Neo to emergent award-winners like Boo Jun Feng, Anthony Chen, K Rajagopal and Sun Koh to under-the-radar independent film-makers, students and nominees of the short film awards.

Mise En SIN, a play on the cinematic term mise-en-scene, gives guests the opportunity to get copies of posters, as well as vote for their favourite posters online to win prizes. Organisers have also commissioned movie billboard artist Neo Chun Teck to create work for the awards and exhibition event.
