Filmmaking Gear Reviews

There’s a common misconception in the filmmaking community that the more you spend on a camera, the better image quality you will get. While this may be true for specific shooting scenarios, there is no one camera that can be considered as the ultimate performer in each and every situation. Sure, some are better all-around cameras while others could truly shine under certain circumstances such as filming in low-light. But how about the ARRI ALEXA Mini and the Panasonic GH5s? The next video produced by CineGal compares the two rivals in a detailed series of tests, particularly taking into account low-light …

Aputure announced two new small LED lights – the Amaran AL-MX – the highly anticipated successor to the popular Amaran-M9, and the Amaran AL-F7, which is the successor for the Amaran AL-198, one of the first LED lights that Apurture introduced years ago. Teased at IBC 2017 in pre-production prototype form, the new MX is more rugged and powerful than its predecessor by miles. According to Aputure, numerous sources have already named the Amaran AL-MX the brightest tiny LED ever. Unlike the original AL-M9, which was designed to be as light and thin as possible, the aircraft aluminium build of the MX is alternatively designed to be …

After months of speculation and a good dose of rumors (most of which were surprisingly true) and teasers, earlier today, as expected, Panasonic did a “soft-launch” of the upcoming GH5 announcing they are working hard on bringing you one of the most advanced mirrorless cameras to date. The company also re-affirmed …

The two new lenses join the recently announced manual focus 35mm f/1.2 ED AS UMC CS and its cine version – the Samyang 35mm T1.3 ED AS UMC CS cine prime, which cover Super 35/APS-C. Full-Frame shooters using the Sony A7sII for example, should get excited about this lens as unlike the APS-C announcements from last week, the new 20mm f/1.8 and T1.9 cover 35mm full-frame. The new 20mm lenses are fully manual with a manual aperture and focus ring …

Well, it didn’t take long for that to happen – the Canon EOS-1D C 4K DSLR is getting a massive $3K discount for a very limited time. After the C100 Mark II, and the C300 II got some very decent (permanent) discounts, now you can pick up the EOS-1D C for US$4999 until the end of July, which is in three days. Yes, it may have been around for a few years, but it was the 1st Canon DSLR to ever get 4K video, and it’s sure still capable of producing some lovely images – and add to that Canon …
