Trailing on last year’s release of the F8, Zoom has announced their newest multitrack field recorder; the F4. This 6-input/8-track field recorder includes 4 low-noise mic preamps and promises high-quality audio recording at a price-point that’s even more accessible to the independent filmmaker. The F4 can record to up eight tracks with six inputs at resolutions up to 24-bit/192kHz. There are 4 locking XLR/TRS combo connectors, a 3.5mm stereo input and a Zoom accessory capsule which allows it to mount a variety of proprietary mics and accessories. Sucide Squad

We have, of course, met super-powered comic book character team-ups before: X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four. But ‘Suicide Squad’ is our first look at the other side of the coin – the villains, misfits, and reprobates. There are no white-hat heroes here, just plain bad guys. The worst of the worst, says a character. Director David Ayer has recruited the likes of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, and Jai Courtney to introduce us to fan-favourite characters such as Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Joker and Captain Boomerang. The movie’s a major lynchpin in DC/Warner’s grand scheme, one that offers a much-needed change …
bourne-sequels-700x300

In interviews, Greengrass and Damon talk about the topical motivations for bringing back the iconic character, including the changing norms around privacy in a post-Snowden world. But the plot here is so thin and so similar to the other films that I was stunned they considered it worthy of bringing Bourne out of hibernation. In Jason Bourne, Bourne realizes he has even more memories about his past that he needs to uncover. And while the CIA is trying to take him out and/or stop him from unraveling his past, it’s also tangling with a major figure (in this case, it’s …
ghostbusters-full-new-img

When the new Ghostbusters movie was announced, it didn’t take long for Internet trolls to lament that their beloved franchise would be ruined by a quartet of female comedians. But the reviews for the gender-bent reboot show that the all-female cast is hardly the problem. In fact, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, and the chemistry that ties them together save the movie, the majority of early reviews agree. As the New York Times’ Manohla Dargis puts it: “Girls rule, women are funny, get over it.” The problem, rather, lies with director Paul Feig, the takes largely agree. …
Finding Dory

Who would have thought that animated fishes could be that important. How important? Just ask any three-year-old who Nemo is. When ‘Finding Nemo’ swam into theatres in 2003, the epic story of an overprotective clownfish searching for his abducted son took us on a plunge into an immersive underwater world with a heart-warming story about family. The movie became the highest grossing G-rated film of all time, before Pixar’s own ‘Toy Story 3’ surpassed it in 2010. In 2008, the American Film Institute named it the 10th best animated film of all time; not to mention its numerous awards. With …
Distance

‘Distance’, which opened the prestigious Golden Horse Film Festival in 2015 and widely perceived as the follow up to Anthony Chen’s hugely successful ‘Ilo Ilo’, certainly has high expectations to meet. In fact the film is not directed by Anthony himself, though he has a hand in co-writing the screenplay, and wears Executive Producer hat, helping to put the finances together, and grooming three young directors – Xin Yukun from China, Tan Shijie from Singapore and Sivaroj Kongsakul from Thailand to direct. Joining the bandwagon of several recent films from Asia, the concept of an omnibus film is certainly not …
