China’s media regulator Monday called for the country to accelerate the growth of competitive media conglomerates.The State Administration of Press Publication, Radio, Film and Television said that the integration of different media “falls short of central authorities’ requirement and public expectation,” and set a target of 2020 for improvement, reported state news agency Xinhua. Specifically, media organisations should integrate systems across different media and make greater use of cloud computing and ‘big data.’ This is not the first call for the development of more powerful media conglomerates. This is a nation-wide casting call for young people with a passion for creative expression. The contestants, between ages 13-35, will perform a speech of their choice in front of a live audience, and leading professionals from theatre and film. Singaporean film-maker Boo Junfeng’s second feature film Apprentice has made it to this year’s Cannes Film Festival line-up. The psychological drama, which follows the story of a correctional officer and a prison executioner, will be screened under the festival’s Un Certain Regard section. It marks Boo’s return to the prestigious festival, after is debut film Sandcastle was screened in 2010 at the festival’s parallel International Critics’ Week event. With three films in Official Selection at Cannes, South Korea will be one of the nations most present on the Croisette this year. That’s three more than supposed film powerhouses China or India.
