NEWS: Sony Introduces Latest Line-Up Offerings That are Powering Today, Transforming Tomorrow At BroadcastAsia 2019

At BroadcastAsia (BCA) 2019, Sony showcased its latest line-up of innovative solutions that are “powering today, transforming tomorrow”. They promise to inspire and enable media operators and content creatives as well as enhancing their storytelling capabilities.

“Content is king – it is what draws audience in, creates demand, delivers ratings and drives revenues,” said Takuma Wada, Head of Content Creation Solutions Marketing, Professional Solutions Company (PSAP), Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited.

Crystal LED Display System

Providing customers in Asia Pacific with solutions that cater to their needs and budgets, visitors to the Sony booth at BCA will be able to witness Sony’s Crystal LED display system. The display system features bezel-less screen, unique scalability, precise colour reproduction and outstanding picture quality on any scale, with a 180-degree viewing angle.

REA-C1000 Edge Analytics Appliance

Sony’s latest REA-C1000 Edge Analytics Appliance utilises machine-learning AI technology to provide organisations with a cost-effective and autonomous solution to enhance and create engaging video content. Utilising bespoke engineering developed over the years by Sony’s image recognition specialists, it is designed to work in conjunction with Sony’s PTZ cameras, XDCAM camcorders and other inputs including desktop or laptop devices using HDMI connection. Aiming to drive better connection between public speakers and audiences, this latest solution equips presenters the power to reach every audience in any environment remotely.

4K HDR Professional Camcorders

Sony also announced that its palm-sized 4K HDR professional camcorders, HXR-NX80 and PXW-Z90, will receive additional workflow flexibility via a free firmware upgrade. Introducing a new proposition for users to streamline the process of acquiring live content, the camcorders will be enhanced with Simple Live Streaming, providing content creators with the ability to shoot wherever and however they want.

The Simple Live Streaming ensures that ultimate mobility is achieved as easy-to-use camcorders only require Wi-Fi connection without additional gear. The Simple Live Streaming allows users to conduct live streaming and upload onto major video sharing sites and social media platforms in a straightforward manner anytime, anywhere.

8K Broadcasting

8K acquisition at prestigious events and selected cinematic instances can be extremely useful in the context of oversampling. Generating 8K, 4K and HD signals simultaneously and apply different colour spaces and OETF to each signal, Sony’s UHC-8300 camera system equips broadcasters the ability to capture and deliver content with the resolution and range that is right for each production. Designed to cover all the features necessary for premium productions including live broadcasts, entertainment and factual high-end documentaries, the camera captures pristine 8K images (7680×4320) at 120P. Delivering well balanced high-resolution footage with an impressive deep depth of field, the camera can support BT.2020 wide colour space, allowing content creators to realise 8K images with clarity, colour and realism.

VENICE

Designed exclusively for high-end cinematography, VENICE continues to deliver not only exceptional images but also complete flexibility, creative freedom and its established workflow to match filmmaker’s shooting requirements. Following the release of Version 4.0 this June, VENICE Version 5.0, planned for January 2020, will further enable cinematographers to shoot at speeds of up to 90fps at 6K 2.39:1 and 72fps at 6K 17:9/1.85:1. This addition enables VENICE to capture three times slow motion at 24p even in 6K. Cinematographers can utilize the same camera across multiple speeds, maintaining the full-frame shallow depth of field, as well as the high picture quality of oversampling in 6K.

HDC-5500 System Cameras

Responding to the needs of 4K, HDR, HFR, IP and wireless, Sony’s widely acclaimed HDC Series system cameras furnish media operators with premium content in a powerful, portable and cost-effective package that maintains compatibility with current production infrastructure and workflows. The latest HDC-5500 system camera benefits from the latest imaging innovations that elevates clarity, colour, sensitivity and dynamic range with its 2/3-inch 4K global shutter three CMOS sensor. Used with the new HDCU-5500 camera control unit (CCU), the pair offers Ultra High Bitrate (UHB) transmission that transmits 2 channels of 4K signals at a time, without base band processor unit. The new CCU provides both 12G-SDI 4K output interface and IP interfaces, SMPTE ST 2110 and NMOS IS-04/05 by hardware option.

With the growing demand for video content in various scenes including education, corporate and government bodies, Sony’s HXR-MC88 HD palm-sized camcorder captures professional quality HD content, utilizing its large 14.2 megapixel 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with less noise, both dark and bright conditions. Featuring the Fast Hybrid Auto Focus System to seamlessly capture motion, the camcorder is equipped with built-in 4 Step ND filters and 12x optical zoom with options to double to 24x and 48x. Streaming live events will be a breeze through a simple and affordable production ecosystem, when paired with the MCX-500 multi-camera live producer. The compact and powerful BRC-X400 4K pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera is well-suited for broadcast applications from studio to reality TV as well as shooting in large venues including event halls and houses of worship. A first in Sony’s PTZ camera line-up, the BRC-X400 supports IP and is equipped with NDI®|HX capability with optional license, presenting flexibility in IP-based live production systems, when combined with other NDI-compatible hardware or software, anywhere on the network.

Extending possibilities and adaptability for news and documentary productions

Sony optimises its popular PXW-FS7 and PXW-FS7 II XDCAM camcorders with the CBK-FS7BK build-up kit and LA-EB1 lens mount adapter. The new additions provide users with better ergonomics, networking features and zoom ratio. The CBK-FS7BK features an extension unit with a wireless audio receiver slot and built-in network capability, providing advanced network operation for broadcast usage. With the LA-EB1, both E mount and B4 lens assets can be used on either the FS7 or FS7 II, allowing users to capture images with deep and shallow depth of field – all with a single camera. In addition, with a new compact and lightweight design, the latest UWP-D wireless microphone series offer NFC sync for easy and fast channel setting and support a Multi-Interface ShoeTM (MI shoe) with Digital Audio Interface that achieves high quality sound with low noise for Sony’s PXW-Z280 and PXW-Z190 XDCAM camcorders. The new UWP-D series provides advanced integration with the camcorders for enhanced usability.
