With just one week to go before the Oscars inundate Hollywood with the final event of this year’s awards season, one last guild had some awards of its own to give out. It’s safe to say that no one does it quite like the Writers Guild, which traditionally holds not one, but two awards ceremonies, with both New York and Los Angeles playing home to an evening event that unfolds simultaneously. On Sunday evening, the NYC crowd hit the Edison Ballroom for a Roy Wood, Jr.-hosted show, while the Angeleno arm was back at the Beverly Hilton, hosted by Chelsea Peretti.

Despite missing out on an Oscar nod, it was Bo Burnham’s feature directorial debut, Eighth Grade, that walked away with the win for Best Original Screenplay, while Best Adapted Screenplay honours went to Can You Ever Forgive Me?, written by Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty.

The night’s big small screen winners included Barry, which won both an episode nod and Best New Series, along with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in the Best Comedy Series category and The Americans, which celebrated its final season with a Best Drama Series win.
