On the evening of 16 December 2019, the first Hainan International Film Festival 首届海南岛电影节 (HIFF) officially closed in Sanya, Hainan. Jackie Chan, Johnny Depp, Juliette Binoche, and Amir Khan attended the event, amongst other hundreds of domestic and international film stars.

The honour promotion unit selected by the China Film Critics Society was announced in the closing ceremony. I Am Not A Drug God 《我不是药神》 (2018) won Male Actor of the Year, Director of the Year, and Film of the Year — three heavyweight honours. The female lead of Find You 《找到你》 (2018), Yao Chen 姚晨, won Female Actor of the Year.

The first HIFF organised many events including the International Producer Forum, Women’s Film Forum, International Film Education Forum, International Film Festival President Forum, Master Carnival, International Film Critic Forum, starlight poverty alleviation activities, and more. It also hosted core films such as the 2019 New Film Promotion Conference in the Chinese film market. The film festival introduced nearly 100 films at home and abroad, and ingeniously pioneered the introduction of beach cinemas, film and television attractions.

The world’s leading film masters, young directors, producers, as well as other forces gathered together to become the most-watched movie event in the second half of 2018. In order to maximise the international influence and public attention, the film festival invited a large number of local and international celebrities to the event, including Wang Lihong 王力宏, Johnny Depp 约翰尼 德普, Aaron Kwok 郭富城 and Teresa Mo 毛舜筠.

In the closing ceremony, the film festival ambassador Jackie Chan 成龙 led Johnny Depp, Juliette Binoche, Amir Khan, Max Mikkelsen, and Nuri Big Ceylon to the stage. Each expressed their wishes for HIFF and the hope of working with Chinese filmmakers.
