Asean Film Festival to Showcase Region’s Finest
Each of the 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will present a film from their country during the two-day Asean Film Festival 2011, which will be held in Bali starting on November 16.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said the event would boost economic and cultural development in Asean nations by drawing international attention to the region’s movie industry and potential as a location for filming.
“AFF holds the strategic value of being able to encourage and develop [the region’s] creative industry network,” Mari said.
The film festival, she said, was also part of the regional grouping’s effort to foster connections between its members, especially in developing the creative industry which so far continues to be dominated by countries like the United States, India, Japan and China as well as Europe.
