Govt to provide 400 screens for cinemas1 min read

The government plans to provide 400 new movie screens over the next five years for emerging companies in the movie theatre business in an effort to encourage additional production of local films.

Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik said that the screens would be made available, but not to existing movie theatre chains such as 21 Cineplex, XXI and Blitz Megaplex.

“At this time, there are only 676 screens. The government plans to add 400 screens to reach 1,000 screens in total,” Jero said as quoted by kontan.co.id on Friday.

He said that the new policy would encourage the national film industry to increase movie production. Jero added that the ministry would also subsidize the production of films for children and movies about the national struggle.
