The 2011 General Elections has certainly left us ever more aware of the physical and geographical divisions that make up our country’s landscape. This June at the Sydney Film Festival, 19 short films from Singapore are set to paint a fascinating portrait of different local neighbourhoods. The films make up a showcase that documents the changing landscape of Singapore. They feature familiar as well as forgotten locations, or places such as the National Stadium that are no longer what they used to be.

‘Where The Heart Is’ is a complement to Civic Life’s Tiong Bahru project, and marks a collaboration with DepicT!, the 90-second filmmaking competition of the UK’s Encounters International Film Festival. The project started as a 90 second online collection of films exploring ideas of place, identity, belonging and community. The showcase at the Sydney Film Festival is the second phase, and coincides with the CIVIC LIFE tour of Australia.

The full listing of films to be screened at the Sydney Film Festival can be found here.
